Youth Fitness Classes

Class Session: APR 18 - MAY 26

All other classes: $75

Kids at any level are welcome to join in our youth fitness classes. Participants are allowed to register for 1 ticket to allow more children the opportunity to participate in youth fitness classes. If you have multiple children who wish to participate in youth fitness, you are welcome to try registering all of them in their age and level appropriate class, but please keep to one class per child. Once registrations have closed, participants will have the opportunity to register for any remaining spots.

All classes will begin with a warm-up and stretching, followed by a time to learn and practice new movement patterns, ending with a bit of strength work and a cool down.

Beginner: Participants will be introduced to the basics of movement including but not limited to the following: somersaults, jumps, leaps, handstands, cartwheels, bridges and kickovers, strength, and flexibility. Basic movement patterns in focus are running, squatting, lunging, simple upper body push/pull motions, jumping and landing mechanics, and grip strength. Special attention is given to the ability to fall safely. Participants are also introduced to a variety of different resistance training equipment such as resistance bands, medicine balls, etc.

Intermediate: It is strongly recommended that participants who sign up for intermediate have several of the skills mentioned in the description of the beginner class. We build off of the skills from the beginner classes and introduce more movement patterns such as: round-offs, backbends, front and back walkovers, twisting jumps, strength, flexibility, and agility. We continue to perfect the mechanics of squat, lunge, upper body push/pull motions, power movements, and grip strength with the addition of more resistance/intensity. Participants are introduced to a variety of different resistance training equipment such as kettlebells, dumbbells, weighted bars, etc.

*Advanced: It is strongly recommended that participants who sign up for advanced have several of the skills mentioned in the intermediate class description OR have received approval from the instructor. We build off of the skills from the intermediate classes and introduce more movement patterns including but not limited to: front and back handsprings, front and back tucks, aerials, etc. More advanced strength training is introduced such as weighted squats, deadlifts, bench press, plyometrics, etc. Participants are introduced to a variety of different resistance training equipment such as kettlebells, barbells, dumbbells, weighted bars, battle ropes, etc.

Boys 6-9: Participants focus on perfecting essential movement patterns such as the squat, lunge, upper body push/pull motions, hinge, and loaded carry. We introduce several body awareness skills such as somersaults, handstands, cartwheels, handsprings, and flips. Participants are introduced to a variety of different resistance training equipment such as dumbbells, weighted bars, kettlebells, battle ropes, etc.

Boys 10-13 and 14-18: We focus on perfecting essential movement patterns such as the squat, lunge, upper body push/pull motions, hinge, and loaded carry. We introduce several body awareness skills such as somersaults, handstands, cartwheels, handsprings, etc. Participants are introduced to a variety of different resistance training equipment such as dumbbells, barbells, kettlebells, medicine balls, battle ropes, etc. There is also a large focus on improving coordination, agility, speed, and power. The goal is to get the participants feeling comfortable, confident, and safe in the weight room.

Girls 14-18: This class is encouraged as a supplementary class for cheerleaders who have basic tumbling skills such as handstands, cartwheels, bridges, kickovers, round-offs, etc. We focus on perfecting essential movement patterns such as the squat, lunge, upper body push/pull motions, hinge, and loaded carry. We introduce several body awareness skills such as somersaults, handstands, cartwheels, handsprings, etc. Participants are introduced to a variety of different resistance training equipment such as dumbbells, barbells, kettlebells, medicine balls, battle ropes, etc. There is also a large focus on improving coordination, agility, speed, and power. The goal is to get the participants feeling comfortable, confident, and safe in the weight room.

Attire:

Girls: a mask, a leotard (preferable) and shorts/leggings/pants OR tighter-fitting athletic clothing (loose fitting clothing is a major safety hazard for the fitness instructor in the event they need to assist the participant in a movement skill; it is also best for any skills requiring the participant to go upside down). Hair should be pulled back away from the face as possible (if really long hair, a bun is advised). No jewelry or socks.

Boys: a mask, tighter-fitting athletic clothing such as a t-shirt and shorts (loose fitting clothing is a major safety hazard for the fitness instructor in the event they need to assist the participant in a movement skill; it is also best for any skills requiring the participant to go upside down). If longer hair, please pull back away from the face as much as possible. No jewelry or socks.
